Author Description
Outsider
- real name
Aarne Haapakoski
(before 1935,
Aarne Laitinen
) - was a Finnish author and a journalist. During his career, he wrote - according to himself - over 2500 stories, some of which were also translated to other languages (mainly Swedish).
He is best known for his two two-fisted action-adventure series,
Kalle-Kustaa Korkin seikkailuja
(The Adventures of Kalle-Kustaa Korkki) and
Pekka Lipposen seikkailuja
(The Adventures of Pekka Lipponen), which appeared both in periodical format as well as radio shows and movies during the 1950s and 1960s. Before that, one of his best known works was the
Karma-sarja
(lit. "Karma series") series featuring the architect/private investigator Klaus Karma. Several Karma books were published in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He also wrote historical fiction, and his
Atorox
-series is considered to be among the first science fiction stories published by a Finnish author.
Even though he became best known as
Outsider
, he also wrote under several other pen names, some of which cannot be reliably traced back to him today. Some certain pen names he used were
Henrik Horna, Antti Rokka, Rigor Morton, Halt Denis, Victor Mario, William B. Harrow, Charles Snyder
and
Rautamies
.
During his late career, the pseudonym Outsider was also used by
Seppo Tuisku
, who wrote over a hundred stories featuring Kalle-Kustaa Korkki and Pekka Lipponen from 1959 to 1965, continuing Outsider's legacy after his death.
